Major-General George Meade adopted this flag for the Army of the Potomac Headquarters. It was a swallow-tailed guidon featuring no stripes, but with a golden colored eagle set within a silver wreath centered on a plain magenta field. Considered by many re-enactors and Civil War historians to be the battle flag of the Union Army.
