The current flag of Easton, Pennsylvania is historically notable as an early example of a flag of US Independence with claims that the flag was raised on July 8, 1776 as a spontaneous response to news of the Declaration of Independence. The first verifiable use of the flag came later, during the war of 1812, which still cements the Easton flag as an early historical example of Americana. The flag features 13 distinctive 8 point stars in the field of the flag and uniquely 13 stripes of alternating red and blue at the canton.
